World Coin Sets

This is a set of 1999 South African coins, but then the fun begins…The coins are 5c, 50c, 5 Rand and Protea which is a small sized Silver crown. The three small coins are Prooflike Uncirculated but the Protea is only listed as a Silver Proof, which this is. But, and here is the good part, Krause list the Protea as having a mintage of just 1,500 pieces (KM232). These coins were bought from the South African Government and sent to a marketing company in Norway. They were placed into a presentation folder where the text is in Norwegian. It is all a little confusing to us. But we do know that the Silver Proof Protea has a very small mintage of just 1,500 pieces. We are going to offer you the complete 1999 South African Mint Set for just £39.50 which is about half the catalogue price of the Silver coin alone. We think this is an excellent buy and would make a most interesting and exciting present for someone.

The man who makes our sets of European coins pre the Euro, has come up with his best collection yet! He has put together a collection of 19 different pre-Euro Spanish coins. He said he was going to do it and to be honest we didn’t think that he could do it, especially at the price he quoted. He is as good as his word and here they are: 10 Centimos (1), 50 Centimos (1), 1 Peseta (5), 5 Pesetas (10). 10 Pesetas (1) and 25 Pesetas (1). A total of 19 different Spanish coins all in selected circulated condition.

One of our sources managed to supply 98 sets of these Spanish coin sets. First you get the set of 3 coins (1, 5 & 25 Pesetas) issued under Franco. Then you get 3 other coins (1, 5 & 25 Pesetas) issued under Juan Carlos. Finally you get 3 coins issued under King Juan Carlos but for The 1982 Football World Cup. You get a total of 9 different Spanish coins, showing two rulers and one with Football commemorative coins. The coins are circulated but have been specially selected for our collectors. Remember just 98 sets of 9 coins available.

At the paper money fair in The Netherlands, we met a dealer from Sri Lanka. He had just 100 sets of their coinage with him and we bought all of them. After all, finding, let alone buying the coins of Sri Lanka is not easy at all. There are 10 different Brilliant Uncirculated coins, some odd-shaped. They are 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 & 50 Cents plus 1, 2, 5 & 10 Rupees 1988-2016. It is a very difficult set to put together, especially in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Once they are gone, they are gone...

(formerly Ceylon) 2005-13, six coins 25c, 50, 1, 2, 5 and 10 Rupees. The reverse is the symbol of Sri Lanka.

5 coins all dated 1997. it is almost impossible to get Uncirculated coins and banknotes from the treasury. 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 Dobras.

Another scarce and interesting set struck and packaged by the Royal Mint was done for Swaziland in 1974. This is a 7-coin proof set consisting of the 1 Lilangeni, 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents, 5 cents, 2 cents, and 2-cent coins. The obverse of the coins all have King Sobhuza II who was the Paramount Chief and later Ngwenyama of Swaziland for 82 years and 254 days, the longest verifiable reign of any monarch in recorded history. Gleaming proofs in original Royal Mint packaging but supplies are very limited.

This set was made up by the Swedish Mint in 1984; it contains all six coins issued for circulation. But the coins are in Prooflike Uncirculated and far better than the normal coins would look like. The set comes in a blue and gold hard plastic case, showing both sides of the coins. The set contains the 5, 10, 25 & 50 Ore as well as the 1 & 5 Kronor coins all in Prooflike Uncirculated condition. The set is now 35 years old and I would guess not all that easy to find. The set is sealed by the Swedish Royal Mint.

This is the Official Swedish Royal Mint 1980 Mint Set. It is contained in a handsome blue hard plastic holder and contains 6 coins. They are 5, 10, 25 and 50 Ore plus the 1 and 5 Kroner. They are listed as Uncirculated but they are in fact Prooflike Uncirculated and sealed in the office case of issue. As a modern mint set, I think the Swedish Mint did an excellent job. Not an easy set to find, but one of our contacts found just 70 sets, don’t forget they are now 40 years old and then there were not as many Swedish collectors as there are now. When they are gone, they are gone.

This is a nice set of six different denominations of Swedish coins, all of which were issued pre-World War II. You get the copper 1, 2, and 5 Ore and the silver 10, 25, and 50 Ore. All coins are in Fine to Very Fine condition, the earlier the coin the closer to Fine it will be. Dates will vary but all are prior to 1939 and some will be in from the 1910s. A nice set and very historic!

In 1942, during World War II Sweden change the metal content of its smallest coins. That is the 1, 2 and 5 Ore were now made in steel? During the War you used whatever metal was most readily available and of the least use elsewhere. They liked this new coinage so well that they carried on making them until 1950. So some of the coins will be struck during the War and some shortly afterwards. We think it is a most interesting set and that they carried on using them after the War. The set of three coins are in Very Fine condition and now at least 70 years old.

In the old days, up until 1967, three of the Swiss coins made for circulation contained silver. We have a small group of the old Swiss coin sets on offer, all eight different coins. All the coins are in Very Fine condition and are now getting rather hard to find. You get bronze 1 & 2 Rappen, cupro-nickel 5, 10 and 20 Rappen and the silver ½, 1 and 2 Francs. Dates will vary but all the coins are selected Very Fine and the silver ones over 50 years old.

The autonomous region called the TransDniester Republic issued a most unusual set of coins in 2014. They are made of composite material, are semi-transparent, and have a textured surface. This territory was part of the Soviet Union, and later became an unrecognised Moldovan breakaway state, that is still recognised internationally as being part of Moldova. These coins are a plastic-type material but with a hardness that produces a stone-like sound when rubbed. They were issued by the 'TransDniester Republic Bank' and there are 4 denominations. 1 Rouble circular, 3 Roubles square with rounded corners, 5 Roubles pentagon-shaped with rounded corners, and 10 Roubles hexagonal with rounded corners. They have rounded corners for ease of use and for ease of machine readability at high speeds. These were an experiment and who knows if they will continue to issue them. But we thought that they were very interesting and rather well priced so we obtained 100 sets of them. Supplies are limited.

In 1976 the United States celebrated her bicentennial (200th anniversary) of freedom. Of course that freedom was from us, but that is another story. To celebrate this historic event they gave three of their coins a total make over, the Dollar, Half Dollar and Quarter Dollar. They issued these coins in cupro-nickel for circulation. In Proof cupro-nickel for collectors and a VIP 3 coin proof set in Silver. It is that silver proof set that we are now offering you. It has been quite some time since we were last able to offer this important one year proof set in Silver. Each of the three coins has two dates 1776 and 1976. The Dollar has Ike and the reverse has the Liberty Bell and the Earth. The Kennedy 50 Cents or half dollar has Independence Hall on the reverse. Finally the Washington 25c or quarter has a drummer boy from the War of Independence. This is a handsome one year Silver Proof Set and even the case is rather outstanding. We managed to get just under 90 of these special proof sets, when they are gone it may well be a couple more years until we are able to offer them again.
