The origins of paper currency date back to 7th Century China during the Tang dynasty. However, true paper money wouldn’t appear until the 11th century. In Europe, the concept of paper money was first introduced by explorers like Marco Polo. As for the production of banknotes in European soil, it was only in 1661 that Sweden issued the first.

Recently an old dealer friend got in touch. He has been in semi-retirement for several years but the pandemic meant he had time on his hands and, as he put it, he started sorting old stock he had forgotten about. Amongst other things, he offered us brand new sets of 50 (£49.50), 100 (£120.00), and 150 (£275.00) different Uncirculated notes all from different countries, and it is fantastic! All are, of course, Uncirculated. We have to admit it would be very difficult for anyone else to put it together today without increasing the price significantly.
