In addition to all this, we have an intriguing addition to our collection this month: the Japan 2 Shu 'Tenpo Nishukin'. These unique items are small coins or bars that were minted by local magnates. What makes them even more interesting is that they were exchangeable from region to region, adding an element of versatility to their appeal. They contain .298 grams of gold. Known as 'ryo', they served as the primary gold currency in Japan for approximately 300 years, until the adoption of the yen in 1871 during the reforms of Emperor Meiji.
