The Groat, or fourpence, was first introduced under Edward I in the 13th Century, but they did not prove to be popular until the reign of Edward III. William IV only struck groats in 1836 and 1837. They are struck in Sterling Silver and feature the King on the obverse and have a miniature seated Britannia on the reverse with date in the exergue. These groats are now 190 years old, dates of our choice.
