Thailand, Satang 1937 BU

Not many people will know that the subdivision of the Thai baht is called a satang, and that is mainly because these coins went out of daily circulation some time ago. We have some noncirculated 1 satang coins struck in 1937 (BE2480) and 1939 (BE2482) during the reign of Ananda Mahidol, who ruled the country as Rama VIII. On the obverse of the coin is a Unalom, a Buddhist or Hindu symbol representing the path to freedom round a central hole. The reverse of the coin features a Thai motif known as Kranok pattern around the date in the Buddhist calendar.
