Merlyn Lowther became Chief Cashier at the Bank of England on January 1st 1999 Although the Bank produced £20 notes with the Faraday reverse with her signature, they were not released into circulation because they were not needed. Six months later, in June 2000, the Bank unveiled a brand new design for the £20 note with Lowther’s signature rendering the first issue all but redundant. Only one prefix was ever produced for the Lowther Faraday £20 – DA. (B384) We have a few Uncirculated examples with the very first prefix DA01.
