William III ascended the throne after the Glorious Revolution, deposing James II. He ruled alongside his wife - Mary II – before her untimely death from smallpox in 1694 at just 32 years old. We have a small group of heavily circulated William III halfpennies, they were minted from 1695 to 1701 and were struck in copper as part of the Great Recoinage.
