In 1923 these notes, issued by the Landesbank der Rhein Provinz were given the 1 milliarden denomination. In today’s parlance that is 1000 million or 1 billion, a huge denomination and a reflection of the rampant inflation which gripped Germany in the early 1920’s. The design is quite simple on the front with a menacing eagle with shield on the back, Crisp GVF-EF+.
