The 1787 shillings of George III were minted during a period of economic and political change. Apart from the Rare “Northumberland” Shilling of 1763, they were the only shillings struck between 1758 and 1816. Though not intended for circulation, the 1787 shillings were produced in large numbers by the Soho Mint using steam-powered presses.
