These hammered silver deniers were struck in Le Mans, the main city of the County of Maine in north western France. They date back to the reign of Count Herbert I, who ruled the territory between 1017 until his death in 1035. On the obverse is Herbert’s personal monogram, while the reverse has a central cross with an alpha and omega hanging from the cross bars. Despite being almost 1,000 years old, we can offer these coins in About Very Fine condition.
