In 1989, the Berlin Wall came crashing down and with it the country we used to refer to as East Germany. This set comprises 5 Uncirculated notes from the last series of banknotes ever issued for the DDR as East Germany was known. They are dated between 1971 and 1975 (P27-31) and comprise the 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 mark values, Famous personages appear on the fronts –Thomas Muntze on the 5, Clara Zetkin on the 10, poet Goethe on the 20, Friedrich Engels on the 50 and Karl Marx on the blue 100. The backs illustrate scenes from daily life- agriculture, a radio console, a school, a factory and the wide boulevard that is Friedrichstrasse in Berlin. All in all a wonderful set from a country which has ceased to exist.
