The Kingdom of Nepal was founded in 1768 and after a protracted 20th century Civil War was abolished some 230 odd years later in 2005. In 2001,King Bihendra was assassinated along with 8 members of his family. The Crown Prince, who was thought to be responsible for the massacre, also died and was succeeded by his uncle King Gyanhendra Bir Bikran Shah who proved to be the last King of Nepal. This bumper set of 8 notes feature the portraits of either King Bihendra or King Gyanhendra. All in Uncirculated condition, the set includes 2 x 1 rupees, 1 x 2 rupees, 2 x 5 rupees, the Commemorative polymer 10 rupees for Gyanhendra’s Coronation and 1 each of the 10 and 20 rupees. A great set at a great price for all 8!
There is much talk as the whether countries, outside of the UK, issuing banknotes with the monarch’s portrait would continue now that Charles is King. Countries like Zealand retained Queen Elizabeth’s portrait on the 20 dollar denomination and we can offer it now. The new plastic 5 dollars issued by New Zealand recently won the International Banknote Society Banknote of the Year (P191). It certainly is a handsome note. It features Sir Edmund Hillary, acknowledged as the first person to climb Mount Everest. Alongside his portrait is a view of Mount Cook, his favourite mountain. A Holho penguin is on the back. A lovely quartet of notes issued by Nicaragua and all printed on polymer plastic. Included in the set are the 10, 20, 50 and 100 cordobas values – The fronts all feature local landmarks such as the Salvador Allende Port in Managua, a church, the Handicrafts Market and Granada Cathedral. The backs are delightful with vignettes of dancers and a horse and buggy. Uncirculated.

It comprises the 5,10, 20 and 50 naira dated 2007 to 2009 (P32-5) The fronts feature portraits of prominent citizens whilst the backs feature traditional dancers, women carrying pots, fishermen preparing fish and a woman at a potter’s wheel. The portraits of important dignitaries and citizens appear on the front while the backs feature illustrations of traditional drummers, women carrying baskets and fi shermen with their catch. Kirsten Flagstad is the subject of the front of these Norway 100 kroner notes issued between 2006 and 2010 (P49e) She was the outstanding Wagnerian soprano of her generation. Her debut in New York in 1935 led to her being hailed as the voice of the 20h century. She was born in 1895 and died in 1962. The back of the note has an aerial view of a theatre auditorium.
