The series is a very difficult to one to collect exhaustively, many of the date/head/silver-provenance combinations being very rare in any condition; in addition the rarity of even common pieces of Charles II coinage in very fine or better condition render the acquisition of a comprehensive collection a very difficult task. One should be perhaps thankful that the edges were milled rather than bearing regnal years with their attendant errors and varieties.
For a series of such complexity, one should attempt to acquire varieties in any condition; rejection of a rare piece purely on grounds of condition may result in a gap in one’s collection which proves permanent.
