It was while Chris Salmon was Chief Cashier at the Bank of England that the bank unveiled what was to be the last design for the £50 note printed on paper. (B410) It was introduced in November 2011. The portrait of Queen Elizabeth appears on the front. On the back, we find a portrait of Matthew Boulton, industrialist and entrepreneur to the left and to the right, a portrait of James Watt, engineer and scientist, most famous for his work on the steam engine. The new feature on these notes is the motion thread woven into the paper, which moves up and down and to the side when the notes are tilted. All our notes have the very first prefix AA01 and are early numbers ranging between 004080 and 004120. Crisp Uncirculated and limited availability.
