Had these 5000 riels been issued in the mid 1970’s when they were printed, they would have been the highest denomination available at the time. As it turned out, they were printed, but never entered circulation. In fact, they were only discovered in 2015 ! (P17A) The front of these toned 5000 riels features a portrait of poet Knom Ngoy while a view of the Banque Nationale du Cambodge building in Phnom Penh appears on the back, (This building was subsequently destroyed by the Khmer Rouge in 1975). Uncirculated, printed but never issued 5000 riels.
