These days when you write a cheque and send it off, that’s the last you’ll see of it. That wasn’t always so. Banks used to return the cheques to you once they were paid. A quartet of cheques issued in the latter years of the 19th century and drawn on the Commercial Bank of Scotland. They are in various colours andvignettes include a castle or a view of the Bank Headquarters. All are filled in by hand and carry a One Penny duty stamp, either embossed or printed.
