In 1972, Barbados broke away from the East Caribbean Currency Authority and established the Central Bank of Barbados which began issuing its own notes in 1973. The first and only 1 dollar bill issued by the new Central Bank was issued in 1973 and features a portrait of Samuel Jackman Prescod, the first person of African descent to be elected to the Barbados Parliament (P29). The back features a view of the House of Assembly Building and the Careenage at Trafalgar Square. Crisp Uncirculated and limited availability.
