divider
Zabel (Isabella) was the only child of Levon (Leo) I of Armenia and was declared Queen at the age of six following the assassination of her father in 1219. Isabella originally married Philip, son of Bohemond IV of Antioch, in 1222. However, in 1226, Constantine of Barberon, a powerful Armenian noble, had Philip disposed of and instead forced Isabella to marry his own son Hetoum to make Isabella and Hetoum co-rulers. They issued these silver Trams showing Hetoum and Zabel standing facing each other with a long cross between them with the legend around in Armenian ‘By the will of God’. The reverse shows a lion standing with its left foreleg raised and a long cross behind with the legend in Armenian ‘Hetoum king of the Armenians’ The coins are available in two grades to suit your budget, Fine and Very Fine but we only have a few of each available. PLEASE NOTE: PHOTOGRAPHY IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE COIN SUPPLIED
