Victoria, Farthing, 1841, NEF

Victorian farthings issued between 1838 and 1860 are among the most interesting copper coins of the early reign of Queen Victoria. The farthing, worth one quarter of a penny, was the smallest denomination regularly used in everyday transactions. The obverse features Victoria’s “Young Head” portrait by engraver William Wyon. The portrait shows the queen facing left with her hair tied in a bun with date below. The reverse features a seated Britannia. Farthings were minted every year between 1838 and 1860, and some dates are considerably scarcer than others. The rarest being the 1860 as the mint had introduced the smaller bronze farthing by then. We have been cataloguing our stock of better graded copper farthings as they usually appear in heavily circulated VG condition. This coin we can offer in NEF condition.
