In 2016, the first polymer note to be put in circulation was unveiled by the Bank of England. It was a £5 note and appeared with the signature of Chief Cashier Victoria Cleland (B414). The front bears the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The back is dominated by a portrait of wartime leader Winston Churchill alongside a view of the Houses of Parliament and the clock of Big Ben showing 3pm, the approximate time in May 1940 that Churchill delivered his inspiring ‘blood, toils, tears and sweat’ speech to the House of Commons, The very first £5 polymer notes had the prefix AA01 and it is these that we offer today in Uncirculated condition.
