As we all know, 1887 was a big year for Queen Victoria. She was celebrating a remarkable 50 years on the throne, and to celebrate this milestone Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm made a new, more mature portrait design of the Queen for her 1887 Jubilee coinage. If you look carefully, you’ll see his initials (J.E.B.) on the truncation beneath the bust. Although Boehm designed the portrait, the actual engraving of the dies was executed by the Mint’s engraver — Leonard Charles Wyon. He was the son of William Wyon R.A. who designed the famous “Young Head” of Victoria, as well as epic designs such as the Gold “Una and The Lion” and the “Gothic” Crown. We have on offer some beautiful Silver Florins from 1887. Victoria’s Golden Jubilee year. Superb value for uncirculated silver coins soon approaching 140 years old.
