In the Soviet Union, sailors were given books of coupons, issued by the Vneshtorgbank (Bank of Foreign Trade). These books of coupons, ranging from the 5 kopecks through to the 5 roubles, had an anchor to denote they were for use by sailors. They could be used in specialist shops anywhere in the Soviet Union. Our booklets are dated in the 1970’s and 80’s, the dying days of the Soviet Union which began breaking up in 1991. A wonderful relic from a bygone age.
