In 1964 the United States Government issued the first Kennedy Half Dollar, it was a great success but it was to be issued for one year only. It was so popular that they are still striking them, for collectors, but not for circulation. The 1964 issue was the only coin struck in 900 Silver for general usage, because of the huge increase in the silver price, the next year the Government reduced the silver content down to 400 fine.
