Tonga, Salote Tupou III, 1 pa'anga 1967 Prooflike Uncirculated

Many of us will never have heard of the small South Pacific nation of Tonga, though some may have heard of its famous Queen Salote Tupou III who reigned for 48 years from 1918 until her death in 1965. It was on her only trip to Europe for our late Queen’s coronation in 1953 that she became famous for not wanting a covered carriage in the procession despite the pouring rain, and in doing so endeared herself to those lining the route. We have a small number of the crown-sized 1 pa’anga coin issued in 1967 to commemorate the famous queen just 2 years after her death, all in uncirculated condition.
