The main illustration on this 1952 5 franken note from Switzerland is of the legendary 14th century crossbow marksman William Tell. He was ordered to shoot an apple off his child’s head by reeve Albrecht Giessler when he failed to show him respect. He is also credited with assassinating Giessler and being a symbol of a fighter against tyranny leading him to be considered the father of the Swiss Confederacy.
