Picture of Elizabeth II, 7-coin Silver Proof Set in presentation case 1996

Elizabeth II, 7-coin Silver Proof Set in presentation case 1996

1996 was a very interesting year in recent British history: England hosted the European Football Championships, Charles & Diana finally completed their divorce, Nelson Mandela visited the UK, and the Royal Mint did something they had never done before. They issued a Proof Set of the then-current 1996 coins but, every coin was struck in Proof Sterling Silver. You have the 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p 50p and £1 all struck in Proof Sterling Silver. The whole set comes in a purple plush presentation case with the certificate and is a rather handsome set. One of the marketing company’s is asking £450.00 for this Silver Proof Set. We think this is a fantastic set and, as such, it is much underappreciated. But maybe not if you pay what some of the marketing companies are asking you for it… A nice set sold at a great price!

The complete collection of Queen Elizabeth II Sixpences from the Coronation year 1953 until they ceased striking Sixpences for everyday usage in 1967. Falkland Islands, 50 Pence (Victoria 100th Anniversary) 2001 Silver Proof_obv

Falkland Islands, 50 Pence (Victoria 100th Anniversary) 2001 Silver Proof

In 2001 the Falkland Islands issued a special silver crown to honour the 100th-anniversary of the death of Queen Victoria. You have the crowned bust of Queen Victoria on one side in the style that was used on colonial coins of the time. The Obverse has the crowned bust of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. We have never see this silver proof crown before, it was part of the inventory we bought from a retired coin dealer. It is quite a handsome piece and comes complete in a protective capsule. We don’t know what the mintage is but we believe it is very low. We guess on today’s prices that the mints are charging we should be asking over £80.00 for it. But we bought it right and we are going to sell it right. We have 200 pieces in stock, the first 100 are £39.50 each and once they are sold the next 100 will cost £49.50 each.

They were awarded by The French Royal Society in Toulouse, France. They are in choice condition with wonderful light toning to show that over the years they have never been cleaned. A beautiful piece, very difficult to find. A nice addition to your collection…

Hungary, Bela III Silver Denar

Hungary, Béla II Silver Denar

Béla was the only son of Duke Álmos, the younger brother of King Coloman of Hungary. Álmos devised several plots to dethrone his brother and in retaliation, according to one version of events, Coloman deprived Álmos of his duchy and also gave orders that the infant Béla should be castrated but the man who was instructed to blind them feared God and the sterility of the royal line, and therefore he castrated a dog and brought its testicles to the King! Álmos died in exile in 1127 and Coloman’s only son Stephen died in 1131 leaving Béla as the legitimate heir to the throne. Béla’s blindness prevented him from administering his kingdom without assistance and he appears to have regarded his wife Helena as co-ruler assisted by her brother Beloš. Béla’s reign was short at only 10 years, these silver denars were one of the few coins issued during his reign. They have a large cross on one side with crescents and pellets in the angles and a small cross within two circles on the reverse.
