The Veteran of Labour Medal was a civilian labour award of the Soviet Union established in 1974 to honour workers for many years of hard work in the national economy, sciences, culture, education, healthcare, government agencies and public organizations. It had a relatively short eighteen years of existence and was ceased to be awarded following the December 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union. The medal is struck from tombac and then silver-plated and oxidised. The obverse of the medal bears image of the hammer and sickle over the inscription CCCP (USSR), with diverging rays behind. Across the bottom of the medal is the inscription ВЕТЕРАН ТРУДА (VETERAN OF LABOUR). The reverse bears the inscription on four lines ЗА ДОЛГОЛЕТНИЙ ДОБРОСОВЕСТНЫЙ ТРУД (FOR LONG DILIGENT WORK)
