This is an interesting little set of South Korean coins that have circulated since the 1970s. The brass 5 and 10 won show a traditional Korean Turtle Ship used for many years in ongoing wars with Japan and the Dabotap Pagoda Temple respectively. On the 100 won is the image of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a national hero who defeated Japan in Imjin Wars of 1592, while the 500 won has a Manchurian or Red crested krane, which is a symbol of good luck, long life and fidelity in Korean culture.
