South Africa, Swellendam, Barry & Nephews £5, 18xx

These £5 notes were for issue by Barry & Nephews, a company which traded in South Africa in the 1850's. They issued their own notes which were beautifully printed in black on white and were payable at their offices in Cape Town and London. The stunning central vignette is of an ox wagon which is how the company transported its goods into the interior.

A gorgeous note in GEF/Uncirculated condition but with some light staining at the bottom
