Small centimes from France’s Third Republic

divider
After the fall of Napoleon III all new coinage between 1872 and 1897 bore the head of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility, and the traditional republican motto of Liberty, Fraternity and Equality. These small 1 centime coins from that period were the lowest denomination struck at the time and are now available in Very Fine and Uncirculated condition. Although toned, many of the latter still have some original lustre.
