In the last decade of the 18th century there were 69 churches in the City of London. Between 1796 and 1797 John Skidmore, an iron and grate manufacturer, produced a series of copper tokens for collectors illustrating 54 of these churches. This book catalogues and illustrates all of those tokens and puts them in the context of today by showing the churches that still exist and the sites of those that have now disappeared. In the process the author Simon Monks uncovers many fascinating facts about the churches, the architecture, the locations and the people and events associated with them.
