It was during Elizabeth II’s reign that the Bank of England made the switch from printing its banknotes on paper to polymer. When her son, Charles III ,came to the throne, the Bank of England issued notes with his portrait following the same designs as those issued for his mother. We now offer Uncirculated pairs of the polymer £5 note issued with Elizabeth and Charles’ portraits. (B414/B419) The backs of both notes feature a portrait of Winston Churchill. This portrait was taken from a photograph by Karsh and sits alongside a view of Westminster and Big Ben from the South Bank of the Thames. The clock’s hands are at 3 o’clock, approximately the time Churchill made his famous, blood, sweat and tears speech in the House of Commons on the 13th May 1940. This quotation appears below his portrait. Both Uncirculated notes on off er have the first prefix for type- AA for the Elizabeth £5 and CA for the Charles Available separately or save when you buy the pair.
