Portugal, 250 Escudos 1988 Olympics

This cupronickel One Peso was issued by Cuba in 1983 for the Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo. It should be noted that the mintage is a very small 3,000 pieces, which in today’s collecting terms can almost be called rare. The coins have two ice hockey players facing off and the obverse has the arms of Cuba. We think this whole series is much under-appreciated and one day that might well change.

Gambia is one of the smallest countries on the African Continent by land area. But it is one country that a lot of British tourists go to. Getting the coins out of the country can be a problem, but a friend managed it. There are four Brilliant Uncirculated coins in the set, 1 Butut with ground nuts, 5 Bututs with a sailboat, 10 Bututs with a bird on it and the 25 Bututs with a palm tree. The coins are all dated 1998 and in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

As many of you who collect Euros know, anything from Monaco is rare and expensive. The same holds true for the Pattern Ecu pieces of 1994. At that time everyone thought the new coinage was going to be called Ecus and not Euros. These were privately issued and highly collected. We have bought out the last of the group that was struck in 1994 and our prices are far more reasonable. These pieces can never be struck again.
