Spain, Pair of Spanish Civil War (25 Centavos) Coins

One of our dealers managed to get us two different 25 Centavo coins issued in Spain during their Civil War. One is dated 1927 and has a crown and a hammer on it. The second is dated 1934 and has Espana holding an olive branch. Both coins were struck with a hole in the middle and are in Very Fine condition. The Spanish Civil War, as are all civil wars, had a brother fighting brother. It was the Communists fighting the Fascists and in this case, the Fascists (with the help of Germany) came out on top. This pair of coins is getting increasingly difficult to find. We think they are fantastic but that they do represent a bloody and turbulent time in Spain’s history.

Edward VII, Farthing 1905 Fine

In 1905 King Edward VII was on the throne, finally having taken over from his late mother, Queen Victoria. Arthur Balfour is Prime Minister and Chelsea has just been elected to the Football League. The GPO had just gotten rid of horse-drawn carriages to deliver the mail from London to Brighton and replaced them with Motor Lorries. The 1st public protest by a suffragette took place and Alf Common became the first £1000 football transfer. The Farthing was the smallest denomination regularly issued. You had the King’s bare head on one side and a seated Britannia on the other side. We can offer you the King Edward VII Farthing in Fine condition for your collection.
