Pair of German Waffle Coins

Germany is one of very few European countries that will redeem their old currency issued before they went over to the Euro. So what did they do with their then current coins, they waffled them! They ran them through a press that impressed the design of a waffle on the coins so they couldn’t be redeemed. What should have happened then is they were sent to be melted down, which most of them were. But it seems not all of them were. One of our contacts came up with some 2 Mark and 5 Mark German coins that had been waffled and NOT sent for melting. After 70 years in the coin business Coincraft has some great contacts. We will sell you a pair of 2 Mark and 5 Mark German waffle coins, when most of the design still shows and you can tell what they are. We don’t know anyone else who can offer these waffle coins as the vast majority were melted down.
