Pair of British Rail Tallies

Long before electronic accounting and whilst still British Rail, locomotives (still largely steam) were literally kept track of by a system of brass tallies. We offer a pair of these fascinating pieces of railway history issued c.1955-1960. Six sided and each individually numbered, these recorded the movements of locomotives, one for M.P.D. or motive power depot (a fancy name for a locomotive shed) and another for track movements. Rarely seen or even known about outside the railway community.
