If you are looking for something even more unusual then look no further than these necklaces made from spherical mammoth bone beads which have been carefully restrung on a modern cord. Each bead has been made to show the many variations of colour and pattern within the bone. The beads range in hue from dark, yellow ochre, dusky grey and mottled white. They date from the Devensian period, ca. 115,000 – 12,000 years ago, this is the term given to the last extensive glacial period that covered the Earth by British geologists. Devensian derives its name from the Latin ‘Devenses’, translated as ‘those living by the Dee’. The Dee is a river in Wales where earthly deposits from the glacial period are particularly evident. The necklaces consist of around 45-50 beads of varying sizes with a drop of approximately 27cms and they ready to wear.
