Vatican, 2 Lire (Holy Year) 1958 Brilliant Unc_obv

Vatican, 2 Lire (Holy Year) 1958 Brilliant Unc

Citta del Vaticano, or Vatican City, issued its own coins up until 2002 when it adopted the Euro. These Aluminium 2 Lire coins (KM.50) were issued in the name of Pope Pius XII in 1958 and were the last of their type issued since he died in October 1958. The coins are low mintage with only 30,000 being struck. They have the crowned shield on the obverse and on the reverse the figure of Fortitude standing with a lion at his feet. Even better, they come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and are now nearly 65 years old and rather difficult to find.

5_Ore_Iron_Obv

Sweden, World War II 5 Ore Iron

During World War II there was a shortage of most metals worldwide, so each country used whatever metal was available. In Sweden's case on the lower denominations, they are large sized coins, but they struck them in iron. We have just bought 100 pieces of the 5 Ore issued between 1942 and 1945. They are in Very Fine condition and struck in iron. It is the first time that we have been able to offer this interesting World War II coin. But there are only 100 available and there are a lot of World War II collectors around…
