With the arrival of decimalisation to Ireland in 1972, the last old style coins were minted in the mid to late 1960s. Here we have some of the last issues of Irish halfpennies in Uncirculated condition that were made before production of the new coinage began. We have a limited number of these higher grade coins available. Following Ireland’s tradition of having mostly agricultural animals on the reverse, these halfpennies have a sow with five piglets at her feet. Unlike some other designs, this one was not continued after decimalisation.
