Pudukkottai was a small kingdom and later a princely state in British India from its creation in 1680 until its dissolution in 1948 with Indian Independence. It is now located in the state of Tamil Nadu. This small copper Amman cash coin was struck for circulation between 1889 and 1934 during the reign of the local Raja, Martanda Bhairava Tondaiman. The obverse shows the goddess Brihhambaal of the ruling dynasty, while the reverse simply has the word “vijaya” or victory in the Telegu language. The coins are in Uncirculated condition.
