India Independence Commemorative Trade Dollaer

This commemorative coin, based on the old trade dollar, was struck in 1997 to mark 50 years of India’s independence from the British Empire. On the obverse is a colourised depiction of Mahatma Gandhi and the Taj Mahal against a background of the Indian flag, while the reverse is based on the old trade dollar with its effigy of a standing Britannia with helmet and trident. The coins themselves are struck in nickel and come in Uncirculated condition.
