Hyderabad was one of a number of Princely States in India that were allowed to issue to issue their own coinage during British rule, and although the new Indian rupee circulated from 1950, the state currency was not finally demonetised and withdrawn from circulation until 1959. These 2 pai coins were issued between 1943 and 1949 during the reign of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of Hyderabad to hold power and who at the time had a personal fortune that made him the fifth richest man in the world. The coins themselves are Uncirculated with lustre.
