Heraclius was Byzantine Emperor from 610 to 641 AD. He is best known for his military campaigns and signifi cant administrative reforms. Heraclius launched a successful war against the Sassanian Persians, reclaiming Jerusalem and the Holy Cross. His reign marked the end of the Byzantine-Persian Wars. He also restructured the empire’s governance by introducing the theme system, which decentralised military and administrative control, making the empire more resilient. His later years were troubled by the rise of Islam, which led to the loss of Byzantine territories in the Middle East. Despite these challenges, Heraclius is remembered for his dynamic leadership and military prowess. We have a group of his bronze 40 Nummi to off er in two grades which come with the fi gure of Heraclius on the obverse and a large M on the reverse. They were stuck on irregular flans so often come in odd shapes. They all have a sandy/Earth patina and come in VG or Fine grade to suit your budget.
