divider
These Uncirculated 1000 drachma notes were issued by Greece in 1942.(P118a) The front is dominated by a central portrait of a young girl in national dress. As with many Greek notes of the period, the back illustration references Greece’s ancient history. We find a view of the Lion statue to be found in Amphipolis, Macedonia in the north of Greece. It is believed to be a 4th century tomb sculpture and was set up in honour of Laomedon of Mytilene, one of Alexander the Great, King of Macedon generals. Available in EF and Crisp AU/Uncirculated.
