The so called Historical £20 entered circulation in June 1991. It was signed by G M Gill as Chief Cashier.
The new design featured a large mature portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front and a vignette of Michael Faraday on the back alongside a view of him giving a lecture at the Royal Society.
The very first Historical £20 notes all had the prefix A01. As the years have gone by it has become increasingly difficult to find choice examples of this important new issue.
