During the early 1920’s the Germany economy was gripped by hyperinflation. The introduction of the rentenmark in 1923 immediately stabilised the currency and put a stop to inflation. Backed by land used for agriculture and business,1 rentenmark was the equivalent of 1 trillion old marks. It was eventually replaced by the Reichsmark in 1924 but circulated until 1948.
