George IV was King of the United Kingdom and Hanover from 1820 to 1830. Before his reign, he served as Prince Regent (1811–1820)due to his father, George III’s, mental illness. Known for his extravagant lifestyle, he was a patron of the arts, commissioning landmarks like the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. We have on offer a small group of Shillings from his reign, they came from a dealer and they were all lightly cleaned but in a nice, strong grade, we’d call them Nearly Extremely Fine. These pretty shillings don’t turn up very often as this design was only struck for 3 years (1823-25). A great opportunity to add a pretty example of the Laureate Head George IV shilling, struck in silver and now over 200 years old.
