George II, Farthing (Old Head) VG

King George II ruled from 1727 until 1760. During that time they issued two different busts of the King. They are known as the Young Head bust and the Old Head bust, offered here, but don’t tell the King that. The smallest denomination issued for this Monarch was the Farthing, 4 farthings to the penny and 240 pennies to the Pound. These coins are almost 300 years old and are in Very Good condition, being the smallest denomination they saw considerable circulation and usage. Dates will be of our choice, but the more you order the more different dates we will try and give you.

Picture of Gloves for handling

Gloves for handling

Our friends at Lighthouse have designed a glove especially for handling coins. In between the ridges and valleys of your fingerprints there are acids. If these come into contact with the surface of the coins, this can leave your fingerprint indelibly etched into the surface of the coin. The real problem is that it can take years for this ‘fingerprint’ to appear. They have designed lightweight cotton gloves that are easy to wear and still protect your coins from damage due to handling.

Picture of Fiji, Edward VIII 1 Penny Uncirculated

Fiji, Edward VIII 1 Penny Uncirculated

Because Edward VIII abdicated in 1936, no British coins were struck for circulation. On the other hand, a number of Edward VIII coins were struck for overseas colonies and dependents. The most difficult one to get is the Fiji Penny. It has been some years since we were last able to offer this coin to our collectors. Ian went on a buying trip to New Zealand last year and was able to find a small quantity of this difficult coin. Each coin has a hole in the middle, I guess that was so the locals could carry them on a string. In Uncirculated condition.
