Faustina the Elder, also known as Annia Galeria Faustina, was a Roman Empress and the wife of Emperor Antoninus Pius. Born around 100 AD, she married Antoninus in 110 AD, and together they had four children, including the future Empress Faustina the Younger. As empress, she was highly esteemed, and after her death in 140 AD, Antoninus Pius deified her, honouring her with the title “Augusta” and the construction of the Temple of Faustina in the Roman Forum. Coins were minted bearing her image, celebrating her virtue and legacy.
