In 1831, the famous firm of jewellers Fattorini opened its first shop in Bradford. Sometime after that they issued a scarce metallic business token in the form of a golden guinea. Of course the last guinea was made in 1813… You have the bust of King George III on one side with the name Fattorini & Sons Bradford and the reverse has the crowned coat of arms in the shape of a spade and the date 1831. Thus the original coin was known as a spade guinea. These are made of brass and in Extremely Fine condition and known to collectors as one of the more difficult imitation spade guineas to get. Fattorini & Sons is still in business today.
